CANDIDACY IS NOT BASED MAINLY ON BEING A WOMAN

June 19, 2008 Buffalo News

In recent articles about my campaign, it has been suggested that my candidacy for Congress in the 26th District is based primarily on my being a woman. Although I am a woman who has broken through glass ceilings and has promoted the interests of women and girls, my gender is not the reason I am the best candidate. As most women know, it is not the idea of a woman candidate, but the ideas and perspective a woman candidate brings to the table that really matter. My ideas in this campaign have developed over years of work and experience guided by my vision for the future.

My campaign is putting forth detailed solutions to create jobs, provide health care for everyone and bring an end to a war that should never have been started. We can and must make Western New York work again for working families.

I am proud to be a woman candidate who stepped forward nine months ago to challenge Tom Reynolds, but I am even more proud to be a candidate offering voters a vision of what America can be, and a path for getting there.
